deep tissue massage

Deep tissue massage that treats the deeper layers of soft tissues (muscles, tendons, fascia etc) of the body.  When these soft tissues are tight our body cannot function properly and that’s when we get problems.

It has been used for thousands of years and originally formed the basis of Physiotherapy.

Remedial  =  intended as a remedy or cure.

Remedial Massage treats a specific area in chronic pain or pain as a result of an injury.

Conditions such as sciatica, carpal tunnel, stiff necks, headaches, sports injuries and many more complaints can be eased with a remedial treatment as masseurs are trained to recognise and treat these musculoskeletal conditions.

A typical treatment may include massage, mobilisations, tractions, rehabilitation exercises/stretches, postural assessment and may involve deep tissue work for short periods of time, but the results are definitely worth it!

It is a common misconception that sports massage deals predominantly with athletes. I believe that we are all sports people as life is one ever increasingly competitive, intense physical activity.  To enable us to live life to its fullest we all must have ‘fit’, well functioning muscles that enable us to perform to our best ability in a weekly tennis match, chasing after your kids or gardening with ease.

Posture

In today’s society, bad posture is often the origin of chronic aches and pains within the body.  Bad posture from constant use of mobile phones, sitting at a desk all day, playing sports and also general life, can lead to under/over developed muscular tissues and poor posture.

My role as a sports massage therapist is to work closely with you to regain the healthiest posture for you in whatever you do.

.

Sports massage reduces muscle soreness and stiffness after exercise, sport or injury, enabling you to train and perform better. It encourages rapid recovery and helps prevent further injury and damage.

Recovery and prevention

In day-to-day life and when exercising we have a tendency to overuse particular muscles, which is a frequent cause of musculoskeletal problems.  Sports massage is an excellent way to aid the recovery of injured and/or stressed out muscles; it is also a good  way to prevent injury from arising.  When your muscles are in great condition you can function and perform at a higher level and recover more effectively.

Regardless of your experiences in sport or exercise, whether you exercise socially or compete to an international level - sports massage may have something to offer you.
